Message from the Dean

Faculty of Science at Eastern University, Sri Lanka (EUSL) has established a reputation for over last 25 years to impart fundamentals of different branches of pure sciences, and has shown interest in maintaining high academic standards to produce graduates who are subject experts and possess the foundations to take up careers in a broad spectrum of science disciplines. The B.Sc. graduates therefore are expected to have a greater degree of lateral mobility and have the potential for on-the-job training or specialized training at postgraduate level to acquire knowledge and skills required for the particular sector.

The faculty while being committed to the above philosophy is transforming to meet the modern educational practices and trends by introducing innovative teaching, learning and evaluation strategies with the goal of producing graduates with knowledge, skills and attitude to adapt to a range of professional and social environments to work with a concern and passion towards others. On this backdrop, the faculty provide a conducive intellectual, social and physical environment in which learning and research may flourish so that both the students and staff exploit their potential to promote themselves and to establish a noble status to the University at national and international levels.

Apart from undergraduate degree programs (B.Sc.(General) and B.Sc.Hon.), the faculty has been conducting research degree programs (M.Phil and Ph.D.) and taught postgraduate degrees. We are also planning to commence new B.Sc. programs by opening avenues for technology based education. The young and dynamic academics in the faculty are in the process of establishing high-quality internationally-recognized research, which I consider our distinct strength. The blend of religious, cultural and social diversity among the student population is a unique feature that stimulates cultivation of harmony, which has become an essential requisite in the process of rebuilding society after three decade war.

The Faculty of Science at EUSL welcomes students who are eager to be intellectually curious to understand the natural and physical world and thereby find robust solutions from first principles, and become globally employable in a wide spectrum of science disciplines, placing values on self and others.
